Position Summary The Reefer Container Surveyor & Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for inspecting both new and in-service refrigerated (reefer) containers to ensure they meet stringent technical, operational, and regulatory standards. This role is critical in safeguarding the integrity of temperature-sensitive cargo by conducting detailed pre-trip inspections (PTI), verifying refrigeration unit performance, and assessing overall container condition. The position requires regular travel to depots, ports, and client locations as part of inspection and quality assurance activities. Key Responsibilities Inspection of New and Existing Containers Survey newly manufactured containers for build quality, compliance with specifications, and operational readiness. Conduct routine and ad-hoc inspections of in-service containers to evaluate wear, damage, cleanliness, and performance. Pre-Trip Inspections (PTI) Perform thorough checks of reefer units, including compressors, fans, sensors, wiring, and control panels. Ensure all components function correctly and are configured to the required set-points. Cleanliness and Physical Condition Inspect containers for hygiene, ensuring they are free from debris, odors, and labeling residue. Identify and report on physical damage, corrosion, missing parts, or compromised insulation. Refrigeration Unit & Temperature Verification Check refrigerant and lubricant levels. Test unit operation at multiple temperature set-points (e.g., -18°C) to validate performance. Monitor temperature accuracy and cooling cycle consistency. Documentation & Media Collection Capture high-quality photographs and videos of inspections. Ensure documentation is complete, clear, and properly labeled for records. Reporting Generate comprehensive inspection reports, summarizing findings, PTI results, and corrective actions required. Share results with operations, logistics teams, and clients as appropriate. Standards Compliance Ensure all inspections meet ISO, IICL, and industry standards for refrigerated cargo. Monitor hygiene and regulatory compliance, especially for food-grade and pharmaceutical shipments. Record Keeping Maintain organized inspection logs, reports, and supporting media. Track corrective actions and resolutions. Travel Requirements Travel regularly to ports, container depots, and manufacturing sites. Adapt to varying work environments including shipyards, terminals, and client premises. Required Skills & Qualifications Certification: Bureau Veritas or IICL certification preferred. Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of refrigeration systems, electrical insulation, mechanical components, and reefer operations. Attention to Detail: Ability to identify even minor damages, operational faults, or compliance gaps. Reporting & Communication: Proficient in writing clear technical reports and communicating with clients and internal teams. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to interpret inspection data and recommend corrective measures. Experience: Prior experience in reefer container inspections, quality assurance, or related technical roles preferred.
