Freelance Data Scientist

We are seeking an experienced Freelance/ Contractor Data Scientist with a strong background in the education sector and the ability to collaborate effectively with software engineering teams. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can translate business needs into data-driven insights and contribute to building scalable, intelligent systems. This role also requires some practical software engineering experience to ensure smooth integration of models, pipelines, and data workflows into production environments.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain well-structured data pipelines using modern tools and frameworks.Develop, test, and deploy data models, predictive analytics, and statistical analyses related to education operations (e.g., student performance, enrollment, operational efficiency).Analyze large datasets and provide actionable insights to guide educational initiatives and business decisions.Collaborate closely with software engineers to integrate models into applications, dashboards, and automated workflows.Work with stakeholders to define project requirements, KPIs, success metrics, and deliverables.Ensure model accuracy, data integrity, and compliance with privacy standards (FERPA, etc.).Present findings in clear, concise formats suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.Required QualificationsSolid understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistics, and predictive modeling.3+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, with at least 1 year supporting education-related projects or institutions.Strong proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, etc.) or R.Hands-on software engineering experience (e.g., version control, APIs, basic DevOps, CI/CD familiarity).Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.Comfort working cross-functionally with software engineers and product teams.Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex findings into clear insights.Preferred SkillsExperience with education data systems (SIS, LMS, ERP for education).Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).Knowledge of MLOps tools and workflow automation.Background in data visualization using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.Contract DetailsEngagement: Freelance / Independent ContractorHours: project-based; flexibleLocation: Remote How to ApplyPlease send your resume and hourly rate to
