Job Description In-House Legal Counsel (Litigation & Recovery) Location: Rohtak Reporting to: MD Employment type: Full-time Role Summary The In-House Legal Counsel (Litigation & Recovery) will manage all cheque-bounce (NI Act) and related litigation for the company, represent the company in courts, liaise with external advocates when needed, drive recovery of dues, and advise management on legal strategy and compliance related to commercial disputes. Key Responsibilities Represent the company in courts (criminal/civil/consumer/NI Act matters) for cheque-bounce and recovery cases. Draft, vet and file legal documents: complaints, applications, affidavits, written statements, petitions, appeals, etc. Manage end-to-end litigation: case filing, court appearances, hearings, evidence management, execution proceedings, follow-ups. Coordinate and supervise external advocates/retainers when specialist representation is required. Conduct legal research and provide actionable legal opinions/advice to management on commercial disputes, recovery strategy, and risk mitigation. Negotiate settlements, compromise terms, and one-time settlements where in company's best interest. Maintain accurate case files, case-status tracker and calendar of court dates; ensure timely compliance with court orders. Liaise with finance, sales, operations, and HR for documentation, proofs and evidence required for recovery suits. Draft and review demand notices, legal notices, and pre-litigation correspondence. Ensure compliance with statutory timelines and procedural requirements under Negotiable Instruments Act and other applicable laws. Train relevant staff (sales, accounts) on documentation required to avoid cheque bounce issues and reduce litigation risk. Prepare regular reports for management on case status, expected recoveries, legal costs and outcomes. Required Qualifications & Experience LLB degree and enrolled with the Bar Council (required). 3–7 years (or more) experience in commercial litigation — preference for candidates with hands-on experience in Negotiable Instruments Act (NI Act / cheque bounce), civil recovery and related criminal proceedings. Practical courtroom experience and track record of representing clients in trial and appellate courts. Strong drafting skills and knowledge of civil/criminal procedure. Skills & Competencies Excellent courtroom advocacy and negotiation skills. Strong drafting and legal research ability. Excellent written & verbal communication. High integrity, confidentiality and ethical standards. Good organizational skills — case management, diary maintenance, and timely follow-ups. Ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams. Willingness to travel frequently to courts and liaison offices. KPIs (Sample) Number of cases disposed (favorable) per quarter. Recovery amount realized vs target (monthly/quarterly). Average time to resolution per case. % of cases settled via negotiation vs litigated. Timely submission of case status reports & zero missed court dates. Remuneration & Benefits Competitive salary (based on experience). Travel allowance & reimbursement for court appearances.
