The consultant will drive network lifecycle activities, lead technical projects, and contribute to network reliability, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.This role requires deep hands-on experience with routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), operational excellence, root cause analysis, and Python-based network automation, along with the ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers.Key ResponsibilitiesDrive network lifecycle activities, including builds, upgrades, and optimizationsSafely implement network changes using established procedures and develop new processes as neededAct as technical lead for network projects, defining milestones and deliverablesContribute to network roadmap planning, runbooks, and methods of procedure (MOPs)Mentor junior engineers and participate in solution and architecture design discussionsOwn development of standalone features within the network stackParticipate in operational on-call rotations, providing event triage, break-fix support, and escalationLead root cause analysis (RCA) and post-incident reviewsPartner with automation teams to develop and integrate network support toolingWrite Python scripts to automate operational tasks and support network automation initiativesCollaborate with vendors and internal QA teams to resolve software defects and validate firmware/OS updatesRequired Skills & ExperienceStrong knowledge of network routing protocols, including BGP and OSPFHands-on experience with large-scale network engineering and device managementExperience with network lifecycle management, performance monitoring, telemetry, and optimizationStrong proficiency in Python for scripting and automationExperience with network automation frameworksProven ability to perform deep root cause analysis and incident resolutionExperience leading projects with milestone-based deliveryAbility to work with network vendors to resolve issues and qualify new software releasesStrong communication and technical documentation skillsNice to HaveExperience with modern network observability and telemetry platformsExposure to CI/CD pipelines for network automationExperience operating in high-availability or mission-critical environmentsPrior experience mentoring or leading engineering teamsIdeal Consultant ProfileSenior-level network engineer with automation expertiseStrong operational and problem-solving mindsetComfortable owning projects end-to-endDelivery-focused and accountableAble to work independently in a freelance/contract role
