Senior Signal Processing Engineer (PhD) – Advanced Sensing SystemsLocation: PuneEmployment Type: Full-timeAbout the RoleAltair is seeking a highly experienced Signal Processing Engineer with a Doctoral Degree to join our advanced sensing R&D initiatives. Our programs involve sophisticated, multi-sensor systems for object detection, classification, and high-accuracy positioning. The role requires deep expertise in both classical and modern signal processing techniques, with applications across underwater sensing and vision-based positioning systems.This is a senior, impact-heavy role suited for someone who has extensive hands-on experience building, optimizing, and deploying signal processing algorithms in real-world environments.Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and refinement of algorithms for detection, recognition, and classification based on acoustic and optical sensor data. - Apply advanced methods such as LOFAR, DEMON, STFT, and related spectral analysis techniques to real-world datasets. - Architect robust pipelines for time–frequency analysis, noise reduction, feature extraction, and statistical modeling. - Optimize algorithms for real-time or near–real-time performance on embedded and edge-compute platforms. - Support parallel R&D efforts in vision-based positioning through signal-level operations such as threshold optimization, centroiding, denoising, and precision measurement. - Mentor junior engineers and guide technical decisions across multidisciplinary teams. - Lead field experiments, evaluate performance under varied environmental conditions, and drive improvements based on empirical results. - Produce high-quality documentation, technical reports, and algorithm specifications.Required Skills & Qualifications- PhD (Doctoral Degree) in Signal Processing, Acoustics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. - 5–12+ years of hands-on experience in advanced signal processing R&D. - Proven expertise in underwater-domain processing techniques including: - LOFAR (Low Frequency Analysis & Recording) - DEMON (Detection of Envelope Modulation On Noise) - STFT (Short-Time Fourier Transform) - Spectral estimation, beamforming, matched filtering, parametric modeling, etc. - Strong proficiency in scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, C, C++, NumPy/SciPy). - Extensive experience with noisy, low-SNR data and real-world sensor imperfections. - Strong mathematical foundation in Fourier analysis, estimation theory, statistical signal processing, and detection theory. - Demonstrated ability to take algorithms from concept → prototype → validated deployment-ready implementation. - Excellent communication skills and ability to lead complex technical problem-solving.Preferred Qualifications- Experience with underwater acoustics, passive/active sonar, or related sensing modalities. - Background in image-domain signal processing, centroiding, threshold optimization, or feature localization. - Experience working with multidisciplinary teams (optics, embedded, mechanical, AI/ML). - Prior involvement in transitioning laboratory algorithms into robust field-ready systems.Who We're Looking ForA seasoned expert who combines deep theoretical knowledge with strong practical engineering instincts.
