Chief Scientist - Fiber Lasers (PhD)

We’re Hiring: Chief Scientist (Fiber Lasers & Ultrafast Photonics) - PhD.QuPrayog Pvt. Ltd. is building India’s first indigenous, commercial-grade fiber laser and frequency comb platforms, with applications in quantum technologies, precision timing, spectroscopy, and advanced scientific instrumentation. Supported by India’s National Quantum Mission ecosystem, we are translating cutting-edge photonics research into robust, deployable products.We are looking for a PhD-holding Chief Scientist / CTO who has personally built fiber laser systems and is ready to architect, scale, and productize them—from optical table to manufacturable systems.This is a deeply hands-on, lab-driven leadership role for someone who wants to build technology, teams, and a company from first principles.Core Role & Responsibilities :Architect and personally lead the design, development, and stabilization of fiber laser systems (CW, pulsed, ultrafast).Drive system-level decisions: gain media, fiber architecture, nonlinear effects, thermal management, packaging, and reliability.Translate laboratory prototypes into engineering-ready, repeatable products suitable for research and industrial deployment.Build and mentor a small, high-caliber team of photonics engineers and researchers.Own the technical roadmap across fiber lasers, frequency combs, and future timing systems.Interface with academic collaborators, national labs, and early customers to align product specs with real-world use cases.Lead IP strategy: patents, know-how protection, and technical differentiation.Essential Qualifications :PhD in Physics, Photonics, Applied Optics, or closely related fieldDemonstrated hands-on experience building fiber lasers (from scratch or major subsystem ownership), not just characterization or usage.Strong experimental depth in -a. Fiber amplifiers / oscillatorsb. Mode-locking techniquesc. Nonlinear fiber opticsd. Optical isolation, dispersion management, and noise suppressionComfort working independently in the lab while also leading long-term technical strategy.Willingness to commit deeply to an early-stage deep-tech startup as a founding technologist.Strongly Preferred Experience :Experience with ultrafast fiber lasers (fs / ps regimes) and frequency comb generation.Laser stabilization and control (analog electronics, digital control loops, FPGA or MCU-based systems).Optical and thermal design tools (Zemax, LASCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).Experience transitioning systems from research prototypes to engineered products.Prior leadership of PhD students, postdocs, or engineering teams.Exposure to working with vendors, supply chains, and component qualification.What This Role Offers :CTO / Chief Scientist position with meaningful equity & payFreedom to architect India’s next generation of indigenous photonics infrastructure.Access to advanced lab infrastructure and ecosystem support through leading quantum and photonics incubators.
