Remote Criminal Appeals Attorney – Contract or Part-Time PositionOur firm is seeking an attorney with strong legal-writing skills to assist with drafting work in criminal-appeals and post-conviction matters. This position is fully remote and focuses on preparing research-based drafts for review by senior attorneys. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys written advocacy and wants to contribute to meaningful appellate and post-conviction litigation without handling in-court appearances.About the RoleThe attorney will prepare draft briefs, memoranda, and related filings in criminal-appeals and post-conviction cases. Assignments may include direct appeals, post-conviction petitions, state habeas applications, and federal habeas corpus filings. Senior attorneys will provide issue outlines or key documents, and the drafting attorney will convert those materials into well-structured, persuasive written work.ResponsibilitiesDraft appellate briefs, writ petitions, motions, and supporting memoranda in criminal casesReview trial records, transcripts, and prior filings to identify relevant facts and legal issuesConduct focused legal research on constitutional, evidentiary, and procedural issuesRevise drafts based on feedback from senior attorneysMaintain clear communication and meet deadlines within a remote workflowQualificationsLaw degreePrior experience in appellate writing, post-conviction work, clerkships, or similar research-intensive rolesStrong command of legal writing, issue framing, and persuasive analysisAbility to work independently in a remote environmentReliable organization, professionalism, and respect for deadlinesDetailsRemote, flexible schedulePart-time or contract work with ongoing assignmentsCompensation commensurate with experience and workloadIdeal for attorneys who prefer research and writing over litigation appearancesIf you have a strong interest in criminal-appeals advocacy and excel at crafting clear, well-reasoned written work, we welcome your application.
