The role will own the organization’s overall IT strategy, operations, transformation initiatives, and financial accountability for technology investments. The CIO will be responsible for building resilient, scalable technology platforms, driving operational excellence, and partnering with business leaders to deliver secure and reliable IT solutions in a fast-growing EdTech environment.Key ResponsibilitiesIT Strategy & TransformationDefine and execute IT strategy in alignment with organizational goals and business priorities.Lead digital transformation initiatives that modernize systems, automate processes, and improve efficiency and performance.Identify opportunities to leverage new technologies to enable business growth and competitive advantage.IT OperationsOversee all aspects of IT operations including infrastructure, enterprise applications, networks, cloud services, end-user support, and service delivery.Ensure high availability, performance, operational resilience, and business continuity of mission-critical systems.Implement and govern IT service management practices and operational standards.IT Project & Program ManagementLead planning and execution of large, cross-functional IT programs and projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.Establish project governance, prioritization frameworks, and performance metrics to monitor delivery and outcomes.Partner with business stakeholders to prioritize technology initiatives that deliver measurable value.P&L Ownership & BudgetingDevelop, manage, and optimize the IT budget and technology expenditures.Drive financial discipline, cost optimization, forecasting, and investment planning to maximize ROI on technology spend.Partner with Finance to ensure alignment of IT investments with broader organizational financial goals.Vendor & Partner ManagementLead vendor selection, contract negotiations, and management of strategic technology partners.Optimize service agreements, licensing, and procurement to support business needs and financial targets.Ensure vendors deliver reliable solutions that align with Emeritus standards and requirements.Risk Management & Compliance AlignmentCollaborate with security and risk teams to ensure secure, compliant, and resilient IT environments.Lead risk assessments related to systems, infrastructure, and processes to mitigate potential threats and vulnerabilities.Ensure IT governance, regulatory, and compliance requirements are upheld.Leadership & Stakeholder EngagementBuild, lead, and mentor a high-performing IT organization that supports global operations.Communicate IT strategy, performance, risks, and value delivered to executives and key stakeholders.Foster strong cross-functional relationships to drive technology adoption and business outcomes.Qualifications & Experience RequiredExperience: Minimum 15+ years of progressive experience in IT leadership roles with responsibility for IT strategy, operations, large program delivery, and financial oversight.Industry Fit: Experience in fast growing technology organizations and B2C digital businesses; EdTech or similar sectors preferred.Strategic & Operational Expertise: Proven ability to define and execute IT strategy, lead digital transformation, and manage complex IT environments.Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing, globally distributed IT teams.Project & Portfolio Management: Strong track record of delivering large, cross-functional projects and shaping IT governance frameworks.Financial Acumen: Experience owning IT budgeting, forecasting, cost optimization, and ROI measurement.Vendor & Contract Negotiation: Strong vendor management and negotiation skills with experience managing enterprise technology partners.Technology Knowledge: Deep understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, enterprise systems, networks, and IT service models.Communication: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage leaders across functions and translate technical priorities into business outcomes.Emeritus provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
