Project Director - Metals & Mining (Iron Making)

This role will be responsible for end-to-end leadership and delivery of large, complex Minerals & Metals projects (Greenfield, Brownfield, Expansion, EPC/EPCM/Turnkey) ensuring adherence to cost, schedule, quality, safety, and contractual commitments, while driving profitability, client satisfaction, and organizational capability building.This role serves as the single-point accountability (SPOC) for assigned projects and represents the organization at the highest level with clients, JV partners, consultants, and statutory authorities.1. Project Leadership & GovernanceProvide overall direction, governance, and leadership for one or more mega/strategic projects in the Minerals & Metals domain (Iron Ore, Steel, Aluminium, Copper, Zinc, Beneficiation, Pellet Plants, Smelters, Material Handling Systems, etc.).Establish strong project governance structures, decision-making frameworks, and escalation protocols.Ensure alignment with organizational strategy, IC objectives, and profitability targets.2. Contract, Commercial & Financial ManagementFull accountability for project P&L, cash flow, billing, and margin improvement.Oversee contract administration, including scope management, claims, variations, EOT, negotiations, and dispute resolution.Ensure timely certification, invoicing, collections, and effective working capital management.Drive cost control, value engineering, and risk mitigation to protect and enhance margins.3. Planning, Execution & DeliveryApprove and monitor master schedules, milestone tracking, and critical path activities.Ensure seamless integration across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.Drive productivity improvements, constructability reviews, and adoption of best practices.Ensure timely and safe project completion as per contractual commitments.4. Client & Stakeholder ManagementAct as the primary interface with clients, senior management, and key stakeholders.Build long-term client relationships through transparent communication, issue resolution, and proactive engagement.Represent the organization in high-level reviews, steering committees, audits, and negotiations.Coordinate with consultants, licensors, JV partners, and statutory bodies.5. Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)Champion a zero-harm safety culture across all project sites.Ensure full compliance with HSE regulations, company standards, and client requirements.Drive quality assurance and quality control to deliver defect-free systems and plants.Ensure sustainability, environmental compliance, and responsible execution practices.6. Risk Management & ComplianceIdentify, assess, and mitigate technical, commercial, schedule, and statutory risks.Ensure compliance with contractual, legal, regulatory, and corporate governance requirements.Lead crisis management and recovery plans for critical project challenges.7. People Leadership & Capability BuildingLead large, multi-disciplinary, and multi-location project teams.Build strong succession pipelines and develop next-level project leaders.Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, diversity, and performance excellence.Ensure workforce planning, talent deployment, and productivity optimization.8. Strategic Contribution & Business GrowthProvide inputs for bid strategies, project reviews, and techno-commercial risk assessments.Support pre-bid activities, constructability reviews, and execution planning for new projects.Capture lessons learned and institutionalize best practices across the Minerals & Metals IC.Act as a brand ambassador of the organization in industry forums and client ecosystems.
