Job Description:

Position OverviewThe Structural Engineering Designer will support the analysis, design, and preparation of structural plans for residential and light commercial buildings across the United States. This role involves working closely with licensed Professional Engineers (PEs), architects, contractors, and project managers to deliver code‑compliant, constructible, and efficient structural solutions. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills, attention to detail, and experience with U.S. building codes and typical construction practices.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop structural drawings, plans, and details for residential (single-family, multi-family, ADUs, remodels) and light commercial (retail, office, tenant improvements) projects.Perform structural analysis and preliminary design of wood, steel, concrete, and masonry systems.Prepare framing plans, foundation plans, shear wall layouts, connection details, and construction notes.Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and permitting authorities.Review architectural drawings and identify structural requirements, conflicts, and design constraints.Assist in preparing calculation packages, load analysis, and design reports under the supervision of a licensed PE.Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, including:IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, and local amendments.Support permitting processes by responding to plan reviewer comments and revising drawings as needed.Maintain project documentation, version control, and organized CAD/BIM files.Participate in internal QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy and constructability.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.1–5 years of experience in residential or light commercial structural design (or equivalent internship/project experience).Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar drafting/modeling software.Familiarity with structural analysis tools such as RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, Enercalc, or similar.Strong understanding of U.S. building codes and typical construction methods.Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.Preferred QualificationsExperience with remodels, load-bearing wall removals, additions, and retrofit/repair design.Experience preparing permit-ready drawing sets for U.S. jurisdictions.Knowledge of wind, seismic, and gravity load path design.
