GUI Automation Engineer Intern - DeepMechanix

Company: DeepMechanix

Created: 2026-04-25

Job Type: Full Time

Job Description:

Location: Remote, India-based · US HQ: San Jose, CA Duration: 3 months, May–August 2026 Stipend: ₹65,000–₹1,05,000/month, set on demonstrated depth Return offer eligible: Yes — full-time role + RSUs for strong performers About DeepMechanix We are building superintelligence for the design and engineering of physical infrastructure, the hardware that civilization runs on. We are starting with static equipment: pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reactors, and related pressure-containing equipment that the global chemical, energy, and pharmaceutical industries depend on.Engineering workflows in this domain are largely unchanged since the 1990s. Engineers transcribe datasheets by hand, perform ASME code calculations in decades-old desktop applications, and produce deliverables through manual review cycles that can take weeks. We are building the software layer that replaces the manual parts of this workflow while preserving the rigorous compliance and traceability that industrial customers require. Our first product combines custom retrieval over ASME standards with automation of engineering software. We are pre-seed with revenue, targeting a seed round in late 2026.Our research work is being published externally: we have a paper accepted at ASME PVP 2026. The product is live and shipping to pilot customers in India and the US.What This Internship OffersCompensation Monthly stipend of ₹65,000–₹1,05,000/month, 3-month engagement. The top band is reserved for candidates demonstrating both research-grade depth and production engineering quality.Return offer and equity exposure: Structured as a pipeline to a full-time AI/ML Engineer role. Strong performers receive a return offer with increased compensation and an RSU grant tied to the company's exit outcome.Mentorship and authorship: Direct technical collaboration with the founding team. Novel research contributions, building on the ASME PVP 2026 framework, are eligible for co-authorship on papers or patent filings.Letter of recommendation: A detailed letter of recommendation useful for applications to top US and European research programs (e.g., Stanford, CMU, MIT, Berkeley, ETH Zürich, EPFL).Resume signal: Experience with a US-incorporated deep-tech AI startup, a novel regulated industrial domain, founder-level technical collaboration, published external work, and equity exposure. What You Will OwnThis role owns the desktop automation layer: Python-based automation of Windows engineering software, the FastAPI services that orchestrate it, and the integration on customer machines. This is a dedicated automation role, not product engineering, focusing on the application layer. Weekly work involves reverse-engineering software interfaces, integrating Python/computer-use agents, diagnosing calculation failures tied to specific patch levels, and shipping integration fixes.Active workstreams:Desktop Automation: Architecting the balance of Python, computer-use agents, and traditional libraries for end-to-end control of engineering software.Automation Orchestration (FastAPI): Building services to handle concurrent requests, Windows process lifecycle, and failure modes unique to customer environments.Windows Integration Testing: Developing test harnesses and tooling to diagnose and fix environment-specific issues (antivirus, runtimes, group policy) without direct customer access.Note: Light UI work (diagnostic/config surfaces) is secondary to core automation.Required Skills & Candidate ProfileOur engineering culture has one mandatory operating requirement: fluency with agentic coding tools. We ship with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and adjacent agent-first environments every day. The first two days of onboarding are dedicated to establishing these working patterns. Strong candidates have already internalized them, formed opinions on where they work and where they fail, and use them to compress implementation cycles.Working hours: Primarily async. 30 mins daily synchronous standup call during 8–11 AM IST window.Core stack:AI layer: Prompt engineering, context control, structured instruction design for computer-use agents, retrieval-assisted workflows where appropriateLLM-assisted development: Code generation, refactoring, debugging, code review, and architectural reasoning using Cursor and Claude CodePython: Core Python, OOP, pip, virtualenv, unit testing, subprocess management, file and registry handling, async patternsBackend: FastAPI, SQLiteWindows automation: Computer-use agents, pywin32, comtypes, pywinauto, or UIAutomationFrontend fundamentals for diagnostic UI: CSS, JavaScript, NestJSTooling: CLI, Git fundamentals (branching, merging, pull requests), GitHub Actions CIEducation RequirementsOpen to third-year, final-year Bachelor's students, and recent graduates. The bar is high and the definition of /"exceptional/" is intentionally broad. Strong candidates typically fit one of these profiles, but the profile matters less than the proof.Windows Application & Automation Builder: Experience building and distributing production-grade Win32, WPF, or Electron apps or Python-based automations (pywinauto, COM) that replaced manual workflows at scale. RPA & Systems Engineer: Expertise in Robotic Process Automation (UiPath, Automation Anywhere) or custom Python pipelines for business workflows. Contributions to open-source Windows automation libraries are a strong plus.Computer-Use Agent Developer: Proven experience deploying agents (Anthropic Computer Use, OpenAI Operator) that drive applications end-to-end, including performance evaluation and edge-case analysis.Systems & Competitive Engineer: Technical depth proven via hackathon wins, competitive programming, or low-level systems projects (reverse-engineering, modding) showing comfort below application-level abstractions.Academic Excellence: CGPA 9.0+ in CS from IIT/BITS/NIT with mastery in Operating Systems, strictly paired with evidence of independent building or automation projects.Good to have skills: C#, Windows Service architecture, reverse-engineering undocumented interfaces, or familiarity with mechanical/chemical engineering software. How to ApplyAttach a PDF CV. Include in the body:A link to your GitHub profileEvidence of at least one shipped Windows application, desktop automation, or computer-use agent project with a link, a distribution URL, or a short explanation of what it did and how it was distributedA short description of the most technically difficult Windows-specific or automation problem you have solved and how you approached itA short note (3–5 sentences) on the agentic coding tools you use today, how you use them, and one specific example where they materially changed how you approached a problemSelection process:15-30 minute screening call90-minute technical interview focused on your take-home and your strongest prior work30-minute founder conversation on fit and working style
