Test Development Engineer – Mechanical

Role Overview:As a Test Development Engineer—Mechanical, you will be responsible for designing and developing Automated Test Equipment (ATE) to validate the functionality of automotive electronic products such as Instrument Clusters, BCM, ABS ESC Control Units, MDPS Control Units, and Airbag Control Units. This role requires strong mechanical design expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on involvement in test system development and integration.Key Responsibilities:ATE Development: Design and develop Automated Test Equipment for product validation and production testing.Mechanical Design: Create and modify mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using CAD tools (Inventor, AutoCAD).Documentation: Prepare design specifications, technical reports, BOM, detailed drawings with GD&T, and operational manuals.Analysis & Testing: Perform stress analysis, material selection, tolerance checks, and reliability testing; troubleshoot mechanical issues.Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with business units, NPL, project managers, and R&D teams to gather project requirements and ensure timely delivery.Fixture Development: Design and develop mechanical fixtures, handlers, and Interface Test Adapters (ITA) in coordination with internal teams and external suppliers.Project Management: Estimate cost and timelines for ATE development, plan and execute projects as per schedule, and monitor KPIs (OEE, FPY, cycle time, quality rate).Continuous Improvement: Implement Lean and Six Sigma methodologies for process optimization.Procurement Coordination: Prepare BOM, coordinate with purchase and logistics teams for timely delivery of components, and manage supplier integration activities.Production Support: Release test programs/systems to production, provide guidance to shift support engineers, and ensure optimal tester performance.Performance Monitoring: Track test system utilization, conduct MSA, and take corrective actions to improve results.Knowledge Transfer: Document all development activities and ensure smooth handover to production support teams.Required Skills & Competencies:Software: E-Plan, AutoCAD, InventorHardware: Printers, pneumatic systems (cylinders, solenoid valves), servo drives, Datamatrix scanners, load cells, laser displacement sensors, Siemens S7-1500 PLCTest Hardware Selection: Knowledge of INGUN test probes/receptaclesManufacturing & Automation: Understanding of electronic manufacturing processes and automation systemsSoft Skills: Strong team player with excellent English communication skillsPreferred Knowledge:Materials science and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)Familiarity with Keysight TestExec SL, MCD TestManager (NI LabVIEW & NI TestStand options).Educational Qualification:Bachelor’s Degree (BE/B.Tech) in Mechanical EngineeringExperience:5 to 8 years in mechanical design and test development
