JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:Breakthrough seeks a visionary and results-oriented leader to serve as Head – Resource Mobilisation (Head RM), responsible for shaping and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that ensures the organisation’s long-term financial sustainability and strategic growth. In this senior leadership role, the Head RM will partner with internal and external stakeholders to cultivate high-impact funding pipelines across institutional, corporate, individual, and philanthropic channels, and to elevate Breakthrough’s resource base in support of its mission. The role demands exceptional strategic insight, comprehensive fundraising experience and a nuanced understanding of the evolvinglandscape of development funding.As a key member of Breakthrough’s Senior Leadership Team, the Head RM will contribute to institutional strategy, represent the organisation with credibility and inspiration in diverse forums, and work collaboratively with programme, media, and strategic positioning teams to align fundraising priorities with organisational goals.The Head RM will work in close association with the CPCO and the CEO, and in collaboration with the programme and media strategic positioning teams, as well as the CEO’s office.Key Job Responsibilities:(A) Fundraising Strategy & Execution:(1) Drive and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support annual and multi-year financial goals.(2) Lead donor segmentation and portfolio management across bilateral, multilateral, philanthropic foundations, HNIs, CSR, and individual giving, along with dedicated teams.(3) Oversee the design and submission of compelling grant proposals, concept notes, donor reports, and presentations. Accountable for maintaining quality and datelines.(4) Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities, diversifying revenue streams across geographies and sectors.(5) Work closely with communications and program teams to craft aligned narratives and cases for support.(B) Donor Engagement & Relationship Management:(1) Build and maintain long-term, trust-based relationships with existing donors and key prospects.(2) Represent the organisation in donor forums, conferences, and high-level meetings.(3) Develop and steward a strong pipeline of partners and funders, driven by research, aligned with the organisation’s values and impact vision.(4) Organise donor visits, events, and engagement opportunities to showcase impact.(C) Leadership & Team Management:(1) Inspire and lead a high-performing fundraising and partnerships team with clarity and empathy.(2) Set performance metrics, track progress, and foster a culture of excellence and accountability.(3) Mentor team members in proposal development, donor research, and relationship management.(D) Cross-Organisational Collaboration:(1) Collaborate with program, MEL, finance, and communications teams to ensure alignment in grant proposals and reporting.(2) Ensure compliance with donor requirements and internal systems, including due diligence, audits, and financial tracking.(3) Strengthen systems and processes to support efficient fundraising operations.(E) Strategic Leadership:(1) Contribute to organisational strategy and direction as part of the senior leadership team (SLT).(2) Bring donor and funding ecosystem insights into long-term planning, organisational positioning, and risk mitigation.(3) Participate in Board meetings and SLT deliberations as required.(4) Help build and protect the organisation’s reputation, thought leadership, and partnerships ecosystem.4. QUALIFICATIONS, SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Qualification:Applicants must possess suitable qualifications aligned with the role.Experience:(1) Applicants must have a minimum of 13-15 years of relevant experience in fundraising/ resource mobilisation, with at least three to five years in a leadership role.(2) Proven track record of raising multi-crore grants from a diverse set of donors (e.g., institutional donors, foundations, CSR, HNIs).(3) Strong understanding of the social impact space, preferably with experience in gender rights, social norms, or feminist movements.(4) Excellent proposal writing, presentation, and storytelling skills.(5) Experience in team leadership, strategy development, and senior stakeholder management.(6) Deep understanding of compliance, donor reporting, and financial oversight in the nonprofit sector.(7) Strong network across philanthropic and development sectors in India and globally is an advantage.Key Competencies & Attributes:(1) Strategic and systems thinker with an eye for detail.(2) Persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.(3) Deep commitment to gender justice, equity, and inclusion.(4) Collaborative and values-driven leader, able to work across diverse teams.
