Job Description:
JOB OPENING AI Designer Prompt Engineering · Generative Design · Packaging Systems · Brand AI Workflows Department Design & Creative AI Reports To CTO / Head of Design Type Full-Time, On-Site / Hybrid Experience 3 – 6 years in design + AI-augmented workflows Why This Role Exists Design in 2026 sits at a decisive inflection point. AI-generated visuals are everywhere — which means the real competitive edge is no longer access to generation tools, but the ability to direct them with precision, inject human intentionality, and bridge the gap between a stunning concept render and a production-ready packaging asset that ships. We need a designer who thinks in systems, speaks fluent prompt, understands material science, and can deliver work that balances the dominant 2026 aesthetics — tactile imperfection, saturated color-blocking, motion-first identity, and neo-brutalist clarity — with real-world manufacturing constraints. Key Responsibilities Generative Design & Prompt Engineering • Architect and maintain a structured prompt library across Midjourney V7, DALL·E 4, Stable Diffusion 3.5, Flux, Ideogram, and Adobe Firefly 3 — optimized for packaging-specific outputs (dielines, mockups, material textures, label art). • Build and manage node-based AI workflows using ComfyUI, n8n, or custom pipelines — chaining generation, upscaling (Real-ESRGAN, Topaz), background removal, and brand-consistency checks into repeatable production flows. • Develop ControlNet / IP-Adapter setups for style-locked generation that stays on-brand across SKUs, product lines, and regional variants. • Leverage AI packaging agents (Packify, Pacdora, Sourceful) for rapid 3D mockup generation, dieline creation, and concept-to-prototype acceleration. Packaging Design & Production • Translate AI-generated concepts into print-ready, manufacturable packaging — including corrugated, rigid box, flexible pouch, paper-based, and sustainable / biodegradable substrates. • Own the full design-to-dieline pipeline: concept ® AI generation ® vector cleanup (Illustrator / Figma) ® structural dieline mapping ® pre-press file preparation (CMYK, bleed, die-cut layers). • Apply 2026 design principles: tactile / sensory textures, maximalist color-blocking with restraint, ink-trap typography, mixed-media layering, intentional imperfection, and Pantone Cloud Dancer (CoTY 2026) integration where appropriate. • Ensure every design accounts for material behavior — fold memory, ink adhesion, substrate texture, shelf-lighting conditions, and sustainability certifications (FSC, SFI, compostable). Cross-Functional Collaboration & Brand Systems • Work directly with product, marketing, and manufacturing teams to align creative output with brand strategy, cost targets, and production timelines. • Build and maintain a living AI-augmented design system — reusable prompt templates, style guides, asset libraries, and generation presets that the broader team can leverage. • Present concepts with conviction — create high-fidelity 3D renders, AR-preview mockups, and shelf-simulation scenes for stakeholder buy-in. • Stay on the bleeding edge: continuously evaluate new models, LoRAs, fine-tuning approaches, and design-specific AI tooling. Share insights with the team through internal knowledge drops. Required Tool Proficiency AI Generation Midjourney V7, DALL·E 4, Stable Diffusion 3.5 / SDXL, Flux, Adobe Firefly 3, Ideogram 3 AI Workflows ComfyUI, Automatic1111 / Forge, n8n, ControlNet, IP-Adapter, LoRA training basics Packaging AI Packify, Pacdora, Sourceful, Canva Magic Studio (packaging templates) Design & Production Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign · Figma · After Effects or Rive (motion) · Blender or Spline (3D mockups) Pre-Press & Structural Dieline creation, CMYK/spot-color separation, bleed/trim/safe-zone setup, ArtiosCAD or similar structural design tools Required Qualifications • 3+ years of hands-on design experience with at least 18 months actively using generative AI in a professional output pipeline (not just experimentation). • Demonstrated ability to go from text prompt ® AI render ® production-ready vector / print file with minimal handholding. • Deep understanding of packaging materials: corrugated board, solid board, kraft, coated/uncoated paper, flexible films, and emerging sustainable substrates (mushroom packaging, seaweed-based, molded fiber). • Strong grasp of 2026 visual language: motion-first branding, neo-brutalist typography, tactile/sensory texture design, mixed-media composition, maximalist color with structural restraint. • Portfolio that shows both AI-generated concept work and final production assets that actually shipped. • Comfortable operating at the intersection of design and engineering — you understand tolerances, die-cut feasibility, and substrate limitations. Preferred Qualifications • Experience training custom LoRAs or fine-tuning diffusion models on brand-specific visual assets. • Working knowledge of 3D tools (Blender, Spline, Cinema 4D) for packaging visualization and AR-ready asset creation. • Familiarity with structural packaging design software (ArtiosCAD, TOPS, Cape Pack). • Understanding of sustainability certifications and eco-design principles (lifecycle assessment basics, material reduction strategies, mono-material design). • Experience with motion design for packaging — animated unboxing sequences, dynamic label concepts, or AR-triggered packaging experiences. • Background in textile, FMCG, luxury, or D2C packaging verticals. What This Role Is Not This is not a role for someone who treats AI as a novelty or uses it to generate "inspiration boards." We need a practitioner who has internalized generative AI as a core production tool — someone who can craft a 200-word prompt that nails the output on the second iteration, not the twentieth. Equally, this is not a pure prompt-engineer role — you must be able to take an AI render and carry it through to a print-ready, structurally sound packaging file. If your workflow ends at a PNG, this isn't the right fit. How We'll Evaluate You • Portfolio Review — Show us 5–8 projects where AI-generated design was carried through to a real-world deliverable (shipped packaging, printed collateral, or production-ready files). • Live Prompt Challenge — You'll receive a product brief and 45 minutes to generate, iterate, and present 3 packaging concepts using your preferred AI tools. • Production Walkthrough — Walk us through how you'd take one of your AI concepts from render to dieline to print-ready file, including material selection and structural considerations. • Design Sensibility Conversation — A 30-minute discussion on current design trends, your aesthetic point of view, and how you balance AI capability with human creative direction.
