Job Description:
About the company hiring:Imagine walking into a weaving karkhana at dawn. The looms are still quiet. Silk yarn catches the first light of the day. There is history in the air—stories passed down not through books, but through hands. Every weave holds memory. Every motif carries time.Ekaya Banaras is not just a brand. It is a legacy—India’s first handloom luxury label, built over 120+ years and four generations, deeply rooted in Banarasi craftsmanship. Working with a community of 10,000+ master weavers, Ekaya has spent decades preserving traditional techniques while gently pushing them forward into the world of contemporary luxury. Recognised by Vogue, GQ, Elle, Grazia, and Verve, the brand stands at the intersection of heritage and modernity—where tradition does not stand still, it evolves.Ekaya is now looking for a Senior Textile / Fashion Designer—someone who doesn’t just design collections, but carries responsibility. Responsibility to the craft. To the weavers. To the future of Indian textiles. This is a role for a designer who understands that luxury is not loud—it is layered. Someone who can sit with artisans, speak the language of looms, and translate centuries-old techniques into silhouettes and textiles that resonate with today’s global audience. In this role, you will research deeply—into fashion, craft traditions, materials, and weaving techniques. You will conceptualise and create design ranges through hand drawings and detailed development, leading collections with a strong focus on Banarasi and Kanjivaram weaves. You will choose yarns, colours, fabrics, trims, and craft elements with intention—ensuring every decision aligns with the brand’s refined aesthetic. You will work closely with artisans, overseeing sampling, weaving, and production, guiding each piece from idea to execution. Market feedback and customer insights will inform your design thinking, while your instinct for craft will keep the soul intact. You will collaborate across teams, mentor where needed, and help shape collections that honour tradition while feeling unmistakably current. We’re looking for someone with a Postgraduate degree in Textile Design (NID PG preferred) and 10–15 years of experience within luxury textile or handloom-focused brands. Expertise in Banarasi and Kanjivaram weaving is non-negotiable. Your portfolio should speak of deep craft knowledge, handloom mastery, and refined sensibility.Experience with brands such as Raw Mango, Sabyasachi, Swati & Sunaina, Nalli, Taneira, or Tilfi, and familiarity with the broader luxury handloom ecosystem—including Shanti Banaras, Frontier Raas, Nilambari, Kankatala, Kumaran Silks, Swaadesh, Warp & Weft, Kalki, Banarasi Baithak, Weavers Story, and Payal Khandelwal—will be highly valued. You should bring a strong eye for colour, texture, and composition, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a genuine passion for Indian textiles. An openness to experimentation—while respecting tradition—is essential. This role is for someone who wants to do more than design collections. It is for someone who wants to shape the future of Indian luxury handloom, while standing firmly on the shoulders of its past.About HireDesigners:HireDesigners is the world’s largest design recruitment agency.
