Over past 13 years, BJS has been working in Maharashtra and six other states (Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu) to rejuvenate waterbodies with a view to mitigate the devastating impact of drought on rural communities. It has rejuvenated over 14,000 waterbodies thus far benefiting more than 3,200 villages. BJS works closely with government, district and taluka administrations, gram panchayats, and communities to rejuvenate waterbodies with people’s participation, strengthening community’s resilience to water-stress.Job Summary:BJS is looking for experienced, self-motivated and dynamic professionals to serve as District Programme Officer for the Sujalam Suphalam programme in Maharashtra and Rajasthan. DPOs are responsible for successful programme management in assigned districts, actively facilitating crucial interventions like coordination with district/taluka administrations, gram panchayats, village institutions, community leaders, farmers etc. They assume responsibility to lead, oversee, manage, monitor, and report on daily progress of activities like coordination with stakeholders, awareness generation and demand creation, BCC/IEC initiatives, community mobilization, encouraging farmers for silt carting, desilting operations, field coordination and human resources management, programme monitoring, documentation, and reporting.Key Responsibilities:·Successfully manage and monitor Sujalam Suphalam programme activities in the district.·Proactively establish and nurture excellent working relationships with all stakeholders, including the District Collector, the CEO Zilla Parishad, all concerned officers, officials, and functionaries in district/taluka administrations, structure-owner departments, gram panchayats, and with village leaders, farmers, and grassroots communities.·Undertake waterbody visits, feasibility studies, and assist in the preparation of detailed profiles for the waterbodies being considered for rejuvenation.·Attend training programmes and monthly review meetings held at BJS Head Office.·Facilitate timely approvals from the government for various awareness creatives, training modules, audio-visuals, BCC/IEC material, tech-enabled tools etc. developed by BJS.·Implement awareness creation, community mobilization, and demand generation activities such as Prachar Raths, BCC/IEC initiatives, donor brand visibility activities etc.·Coordinate with district and taluka administrations, structure-owner departments, and gram panchayats to ensure timely approvals and permissions for the rejuvenation work.·Conduct capacity building sessions and showcasing meetings for district/taluka level officials, village leaders, and farmers on various aspects of the programme.·Supervise daily desilting operations in waterbodies, optimizing input costs such as machine hours, diesel, deployment of human resources etc.·Ensure progress of desilting work is reported accurately on the mobile application on a daily basis and dashboards are shared with BJS Head Office.·Organize programme events, stakeholder meetings, reviews, and visits as required by government officials, review teams, BJS Head Office teams, VIPs etc.·Establish effective programme management and supervision practices in the district to ensure efficient use of manpower and other resources, ensuring optimum results on ground.·Assist in the preparation of progress reports, presentations, dashboards, success stories, case studies, and other documentation on the programme.·Provide timely information to BJS Head Office on upcoming meetings, events and other initiatives by the district administration to ensure BJS’ representation.·Document meetings, discussions, and decisions taken by the district/taluka administrations in relation to the programme, and prepare minutes, presentations, reports, updates etc.·Participate in district review meetings conducted by the District Collector/CEO Zilla Parishad etc. and provide timely updates from such meetings to BJS Head Office.·Any other responsibility as assigned by the Head, Water Programme from time to time.Candidate Profile:·Post-graduate in Social Work, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, or any related discipline.·At least 7 to 10 years’ experience managing watershed/waterbody rejuvenation programmes with excellent hands-on experience working with district, taluka, and village stakeholders.·Experience working with senior government officers and decision-makers at district level in watershed/waterbody rejuvenation/desilting domains.·Ability to effectively coordinate and manage diverse stakeholders for successful programme operations, including government and local body officials and village ecosystem stakeholders.·Strong communication and presentation skills for engaging high level government officials in formal and informal settings.·A good understanding of success metrics, risks and mitigation measures for programmes in watershed management/rejuvenation of waterbodies.·Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Hindi and English.
