Job Description:

A US growth-stage climate infrastructure startup building and scaling electrolyzer systems for carbon removal and green hydrogen production. Having successfully deployed large-scale pilot systems, the company is now transitioning from prototype, demonstration-scale builds into commercial manufacturing, industrial-scale deployment and is establishing its production capability in India. The current phase focuses on industrialising electrolyzer hardware - transforming their First of its Kind - Gen 0 systems into scalable, manufacturable, and commercially viable products through aggressive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), cost-down engineering, manufacturing architecture, supplier ecosystem development, and production system build-out. This is a hands-on product industrialisation and manufacturing build-out environment requiring deep understanding of electrochemical hardware systems, DFM-driven cost optimisation, manufacturing scalability, and operational execution. The role is particularly suited for candidates from electrolyzers, fuel cells, batteries, hydrogen systems, electrochemical systems, semiconductor equipment, or complex chemical/process equipment manufacturing environments.Product Industrialisation & Manufacturing Lead, Electrolyzer SystemsBased in India About the roleThis role is responsible for leading the industrialisation and manufacturing scale-up of a novel seawater electrolyzer platform - transitioning from its first of its kind - Gen 0 prototype and demonstration systems into scalable, repeatable, and commercially manufacturable production systems. The mandate goes beyond manufacturing operations. This role sits at the intersection of product engineering, DFM, cost optimisation, manufacturing architecture, and production scale-up. Working closely with the Mechanical Design Engineering team to redesign and optimise components, assemblies, layouts, stack systems, and manufacturing workflows to significantly reduce production cost while maintaining or improving system performance. A key KPI of the role is driving substantial cost reduction (targeting approximately 50%+ reduction from current prototype cost structures) through DFM, material optimisation, manufacturing simplification, process refinement, yield improvement, supplier strategy, and scalable production design. This role will also lead the establishment of the manufacturing ecosystem and facility setup in India - including production workflows, factory layout optimisation, process design, supply chain build-out, manufacturing readiness, vendor ecosystem development, QA/QC structures, and cross-functional operational coordination. This is a high-ownership, pioneer leadership role within a fast-moving startup environment requiring strong hands-on execution capability, systems thinking, and the ability to operate effectively within ambiguity and evolving structures.Responsibilities:Lead the industrialisation of Gen 0 electrolyzer systems into commercially manufacturable productsDrive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) strategy across stacks, Balance of Stack (BoS), assemblies, layouts, and manufacturing workflowsPartner closely with the Mechanical Design Engineering team to optimise designs for manufacturability, scalability, durability, ease of assembly, and cost efficiencyDrive approximately 50%+ cost reduction through DFM, material optimisation, manufacturing simplification, supplier strategy, process refinement, and yield improvementRedesign and optimise components, assemblies, and manufacturing methods to improve commercial scalability while maintaining or improving technical performanceDevelop detailed cost models and identify structural cost-down opportunities across materials, manufacturing processes, logistics, and supply chainEstablish manufacturing architecture, workflows, tooling strategy, production layouts, and factory readiness plans for electrolyzer production in IndiaDetermine outsourcing versus vertical integration strategy based on scalability, quality, operational complexity, and cost structureBuild and establish supplier ecosystem including vendor selection, qualification, technical evaluation, negotiation, ramp-up, and performance managementImprove manufacturing workflows, inspection methodologies, QA/QC systems, process controls, and production yield performanceWork closely with engineering, procurement, operations, finance, and other cross-functional teams to operationalise manufacturing capability from scratchProvide technical leadership, guidance, and industrialisation direction to the Mechanical Design Engineering team as the organisation scalesTravel domestically and internationally to manufacturing partners, suppliers, and project sites as requiredBuild and scale the manufacturing and industrialisation organisation over time as production volume increasesRequirements:Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related fieldMinimum 8 – 10 years of experience industrialising and scaling complex hardware systems into commercial productionStrong hands-on experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), cost-down engineering, and manufacturing scale-upDemonstrated track record driving major cost reductions in complex multi-material systems through product redesign and manufacturing optimisationDeep understanding of manufacturing scalability, manufacturability optimisation, yield improvement, process refinement, and assembly efficiencyStrong understanding of electrochemical systems, electrolyzers, fuel cells, batteries, hydrogen systems, or related process/industrial hardware environmentsExperience transitioning prototype or demonstration-scale hardware into repeatable commercial productionStrong materials engineering understanding across corrosion-resistant metals, thermoplastics, elastomers, coatings, and structural assembliesDeep familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, forming, injection moulding, laser cutting, etching, welding, compression moulding, coatings, and related industrial processesExperience establishing manufacturing workflows, production systems, facility layouts, or manufacturing operations from early-stage or scale-up environmentsStrong supplier qualification, vendor management, and global manufacturing ecosystem experienceStrong engineering judgement with the ability to balance performance, manufacturability, scalability, and cost trade-offsComfortable operating hands-on within a fast-paced, ambiguous, and evolving startup environmentAbility to lead technically while remaining highly execution-oriented and operationally involvedNice-to-haves:Experience in electrolyzer, fuel cell, hydrogen, battery, semiconductor equipment, or electrochemical manufacturing environmentsExperience building manufacturing capability from scratch in India or other emerging manufacturing ecosystemsExperience setting up pilot lines, production facilities, or manufacturing operationsExperience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement systemsFamiliarity with corrosion-resistant systems and harsh-environment industrial applicationsPrior startup or deep-tech industrial scale-up exposureExperience leading technical industrialisation or manufacturing engineering teamsOnly shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
