The role focuses on leading plan approval activities, providing technical oversight during design development, and acting as a key technical interface between shipyards, designers, makers, class societies, and owners.This position plays a critical role in safeguarding design integrity, regulatory compliance, and the client’s commercial and operational interests throughout the design review phase.What Will You Do?Lead and coordinate the plan review and approval process for newbuilding and conversion projects.Provide technical expertise and guidance across all stages of vessel design development.Evaluate and approve designs, drawings, plans, and technical specifications for compliance with:Newbuilding specificationsClassification rulesStatutory regulationsApplicable industry guidelinesParticipate actively in design risk assessments, identifying technical, operational, and compliance risks.Proactively identify design gaps or issues and recommend engineering improvements and practical solutions.Lead and/or participate in Shipyard Selection and Maker Selection, acting at all times in the client’s best interests.Act as the technical interface with shipyards during the design review phase of shipbuilding contracts.Liaise closely with owners, managers, charterers, designers, and classification societies to ensure timely approvals.Stay current with emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and best practices in vessel design, construction, and operation.The Must-HavesBachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering.8 years of experience in the design of tankships (or 5 years for gas carriers).Proven experience as a Lead Plan Approval Engineer on at least one project on behalf of:A Classification Society, orA Ship Owner / Manager, orA ChartererMinimum 2+ years serving as the technical interface with a shipyard during the design review phase for gas carrier new buildings (5+ years for other tanker types).Strong experience in plan approval, approval coordination, or similar roles within newbuilding or marine engineering environments.Plan approval experience for gas carriers is preferred.Additional experience in:Newbuilding site supervisionShipbuilding contract negotiationsRepair, conversion, or upgrade projects will be viewed favourably.Excellent written and spoken business and technical English.Strong computer skills, including MS Office, SharePoint, AutoCAD, and related engineering tools.What’s on Offer?Competitive compensation aligned with experience and technical expertise.Opportunity to work on high-value, technically complex newbuilding and conversion projects.Exposure to global shipyards, designers, and classification societies.A technically influential role with strong decision-making authority and long-term career growth.Ready to take the next step?
