Job Title: Designated Person AshoreJob Family: Marine StandardsBase Location: Andheri, MumbaiReports to: Chief Strategy OfficerDirect Report: HSSEQ Superintendent / Associates – Marine StandardsPreferred DOJ: At the earliestQualifications & Training:Certificate of Competency as Master (FG) or Chief Engineer (FG). – Class I.DPA CertificateExperience:- Sailing: Minimum 10 years of sea service, including at least 2 years as Master or Chief Engineer on tankers (oil/chemical/gas). - Ashore: At least 3-5 years shore experience as a DPAJob Purpose:The Designated Person Ashore (DPA) serves as the vital link between the Company and its managed vessels, ensuring that the Safety Management System (SMS) is effectively implemented, maintained, and continuously improved in accordance with the ISM Code, MARPOL, SOLAS, OCIMF, and other relevant statutory and industry requirements.The DPA acts as the Company’s key representative responsible for monitoring the safety and pollution prevention aspects of shipboard operations and ensuring that adequate support is provided to each vessel to maintain safe operations at sea and ashore.Main Duties and Responsibilities/ Accountabilities1. ISM Code Compliance & Safety Management- Ensure the Company’s SMS is effectively implemented, understood, and maintained on board all managed vessels. - Continuously review and update the SMS in line with new regulations, industry practices, and company policies. - Conduct regular ship visits and internal audits to verify compliance with ISM Code requirements. - Ensure that all non-conformities, observations, and near misses are reported, investigated, and closed out with effective corrective and preventive actions.2. Communication & Support- Serve as the primary point of contact between the vessel Masters and shore management on all safety and pollution prevention matters. - Provide guidance and technical support to Masters and shipboard staff to promote safe and efficient vessel operation. - Maintain open communication with Flag States, Classification Societies, Port State Control authorities, and external auditors as required.3. Emergency Preparedness & Response- Ensure that the Company’s emergency response procedures are established, maintained, and regularly tested through drills and tabletop exercises. - Act as a key member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), coordinating communication and actions during actual emergencies or incidents. - Lead incident investigations, prepare reports, and ensure implementation of corrective actions.4. Safety Culture & Continuous Improvement- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the fleet and shore organization. - Analyze fleet performance data, safety statistics, and incident trends to identify risk areas and develop improvement initiatives. - Conduct safety campaigns, workshops, and training programs for shipboard and shore personnel.5. Compliance & Regulatory Liaison- Ensure compliance with international, national, and company-specific regulations related to safety, security, and environmental protection. - Liaise with vetting inspectors, charterers, and third-party auditors to ensure vessels meet industry standards. - Maintain updated knowledge of evolving maritime legislation, tanker regulations, and industry requirementsKnowledgeComprehensive understanding of the ISM Code, ISO 9001/14001/45001, MARPOL, SOLAS, STCW, and other international maritime conventions.Familiarity with TMSA and vetting processes.Training in Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis.Strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills.Proficiency in MS Office and QHSE software systems.SkillsExcellent leadership and decision-making skills.Strong understanding of tanker operations and associated risks.Ability to foster a proactive safety culture across ship and shore teams.Skilled in risk assessment, auditing, and compliance monitoring.Effective written and verbal communication, with attention to detail and documentation.Other RequirementsThis role requires occasional travel to vessels and international locations. The DPA must be available 24/7 to respond to emergencies as part of the Company’s emergency response framework.Proposed RemunerationsFlexibility - Commensurate with experience
