We’re Hiring: Head – Commercial / Corporate Underwriter | General InsuranceLocation: MumbaiDepartment: Underwriting – General InsuranceReports To: CTOExperience Required: Minimum 5–7 yearsCTC: ₹15–18 LPAAbout the RoleWe’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Head – Commercial / Corporate Underwriter to lead our underwriting function for commercial and corporate insurance portfolios. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in risk assessment, portfolio management, and client engagement — ensuring profitable growth while maintaining regulatory and compliance standards.Key Responsibilities1. Risk Assessment & Underwriting- Evaluate and underwrite risks across Fire, Engineering, Marine, Liability, and Miscellaneous lines. - Analyze proposals, inspection reports, and client profiles to assess risk acceptability. - Determine terms, conditions, and pricing aligned with underwriting guidelines and reinsurance treaties. - Ensure full compliance with regulatory, underwriting, and reinsurance norms.2. Portfolio Management- Maintain a balanced, profitable underwriting portfolio. - Monitor loss ratios and claims trends; initiate corrective actions where needed. - Revise and improve underwriting guidelines in response to market dynamics.3. Relationship Management- Collaborate with intermediaries (brokers, agents, corporate partners) to provide technical underwriting support. - Support business teams with customized corporate insurance programs. - Participate in client meetings, risk presentations, and renewal discussions.4. Compliance & Documentation- Ensure accurate policy issuance and documentation. - Maintain adherence to IRDAI regulations and audit requirements. - Participate in risk audit reviews and ensure timely closure of observations.5. Cross-functional Collaboration- Work closely with Claims, Reinsurance, Actuarial, and Sales teams for seamless business operations. - Mentor and guide junior underwriters and branch teams.Required Skills & Competencies- Strong analytical and risk assessment abilities. - Deep knowledge of commercial/general insurance products. - Understanding of reinsurance arrangements. - Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills. - Proficient in MS Office and underwriting software/tools.Educational Qualifications- Graduate/Postgraduate in any discipline. - Preferred: Insurance certifications such as Licentiate/Associate/Fellow (III) or equivalent.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)- Portfolio profitability (Loss Ratio, Combined Ratio) - Turnaround time for proposal underwriting - Accuracy and compliance in underwriting documentation - Retention and renewal rates in the commercial segmentInterested candidates can share their CVs at:- hr@✨ Join us and play a key role in shaping a profitable and sustainable commercial underwriting portfolio! ✨
