Job Description:
Role & responsibilities Develop and execute sourcing strategies for key commodities used in rolling stock manufacturing. Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers to ensure quality, cost competitiveness, and timely delivery. Negotiate long-term supply agreements, pricing, and commercial terms with both domestic and international vendors. Analyze market trends and risks to forecast pricing and supply chain dynamics. Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, logistics, and production teams to align sourcing strategies with project and production needs. Lead supplier performance evaluations, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with all internal and external procurement policies and regulations (including Indian Railways, RDSO, and other applicable authorities). Manage procurement for both project-specific and serial production requirements. Support Make vs Buy decisions, localization initiatives, and vendor development efforts in alignment with Make in India goals. Bachelors degree in mechanical / electrical / industrial engineering, Supply Chain, or related field; MBA is a plus. Preferred candidate profile Minimum 10+ years of relevant procurement/sourcing experience in the railway industry, preferably with rolling stock manufacturers (OEMs), component suppliers, or railway operators in India. In-depth understanding of railway systems, specifications, and regulatory environment in India (RDSO, IR, Metro Rail, etc.). Proven negotiation and contract management skills. Strong knowledge of supply chain risk management, cost drivers, and procurement best practices. Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office tools Prior experience working with Indian Railways, metro rail projects, rolling stock component manufacturer or global rolling stock manufacturers. Exposure to global sourcing and supplier qualification processes. Experience in localization of imported components.
