Job Title: Avionics System EngineerCompany: KILLIS BIRDLocation: Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu-635115, India. (On-site; flight-test dependent)Experience: 1–5 years (hands-on expertise matters more than years)Role OverviewWe are seeking an avionics system engineer who can own, design, develop, integrate, and test UAV subsystems from end-to-end. This role requires deep involvement in flight electronics, control systems, data links, and mission execution, with real-world flying and testing responsibility.If you prefer only coding or only schematics, this role is not for you.Key Responsibilities- Own the design and development of UAV subsystems. - Define system architecture, subsystem interfaces, and data flow. - Develop and integrate embedded firmware (bare-metal / RTOS). - Interface and validate sensors:IMU, GPS, magnetometer, barometer, airspeed, range sensors- Implement and debug communication protocols:UART, SPI, I2C, CAN- Ethernet, UDP/TCP (for datalink & mission systems) - Integrate and customize autopilot stacks. - Support GNC algorithm implementation and tuning. - Perform hardware bring-up, bench testing, and subsystem validation. - Conduct ground tests, HIL/SIL testing, and flight testing. - Diagnose and fix failures during real flight operations. - Prepare technical documentation: - Architecture diagrams - Interface Control Documents (ICDs) - Test procedures and reportsRequired Skills- Strong foundation in: - Embedded systems - Digital electronics & logic - Basic analog circuits and signal conditioning - Proficiency in Embedded C/C++. - Experience with MCUs: - STM32 / ESP32 / PIC / NXP (any combination) - Hands-on experience with real hardware debugging tools: - Oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter - Solid understanding of control systems fundamentals. - Comfortable working with flight-critical systems.Good to Have (Strong Plus)- Hardware and firmware development experience. - GNC controller implementation (PID, LQR, etc.). - RTOS-based system design and task scheduling. - Wireless communication experience:Wi-Fi, BLE, RF telemetry, LoRa, ZigBee- PCB design and schematic review experience. - UAV flight testing or field deployment experience. - Knowledge of avionics buses:CAN, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553 (awareness level acceptable)What This Role Demands- Ownership mindset—you are responsible for subsystem success or failure - Comfort with uncertain, fast-moving development - Willingness to work on-site during integration and flight tests - Ability to debug under pressure when a UAV doesn’t behave as expectedWhat We Offer- Work on full UAV lifecycle: concept → flight - Direct exposure to real aerospace engineering - High technical ownership and learning curve - Opportunity to grow into Lead UAV/Avionics Engineer - competitive compensation and exceptional benefits.
