Job Description:
Position: Safety Officer (Site) Location: Bhawani Patna, Odisha Experience: Minimum 10 years of industrial experience, including at least 3 years in a similar process / ethanol / chemical industry Key Responsibilities: Ensure full compliance with statutory safety norms, factory rules (Orissa Factories Rules 1950), environmental regulations and hazardous-process safety requirements at the project site. Develop and implement site-specific safety programmes: work-permit systems, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA), safe-handling of flammable/volatile materials, emergency preparedness and response. Conduct daily site safety inspections; identify and report unsafe conditions/acts; ensure timely corrective or preventive actions. Organise induction training, toolbox talks, safety awareness sessions for all site personnel and contractors; maintain training records. Investigate accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences; prepare investigation reports, root-cause analysis and preventive recommendations. Maintain all required statutory records and registers: safety audits, PPE issuance, accident/incident registers, Form-IV, safety committee minutes (if applicable), etc. Coordinate closely with statutory authorities (Factory Inspectorate, Fire Dept., Environment Dept.), project head, contractors and site teams to ensure safety compliance and documentation. Drive a proactive safety culture focused on zero-accident performance, behavioural safety, contractor safety and continuous improvement of safety metrics. Qualifications & Skills: Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Chemical / Metallurgy / Electrical) plus a recognised Diploma/Degree in Industrial Safety (as per Orissa Factories Rules). Strong knowledge of occupational safety standards (such as ISO and industrial EHS management systems. Technical understanding of mechanical, electrical and civil erection activities; safe-handling of hazardous and flammable materials; ability to conduct risk assessment, emergency preparedness. Strong enforcement and supervisory capabilities at site, with ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, contractors). Excellent communication and training skills; ability to lead safety committees and drive behavioural safety programmes.
