Non-profit Bookkeeper- FT|EST|RemoteCompany: U.S.-Based NonprofitStart Date: ASAPWe are hiring a full-time Nonprofit Bookkeeper to support a U.S.-based nonprofit organization with end-to-end bookkeeping, monthly close, grant compliance, and board-level financial reporting.This role is not suitable for corporate-only accountants. We are looking for someone who has hands-on nonprofit accounting experience, understands grant workflows, functional expense allocations, and can confidently deliver board-ready financial reports with minimal supervision.You will report directly to the Finance Lead and Executive Leadership Team and play a key role in financial visibility, compliance, and decision-making.Role OverviewAs the Nonprofit Bookkeeper, you will independently manage day-to-day bookkeeping while owning month-end close, reporting, and compliance activities. You’ll ensure financial accuracy, audit readiness, and timely grant reporting—while working closely with leadership and external CPAs.This is a remote, full-time role (40 hours/week) and requires availability during U.S. EST (New York) business hours.Key ResponsibilitiesYou will independently own and execute:Monthly close process, including accruals, reconciliations, and adjustmentsPreparation of board-ready financial reports (PDF or similar formats)Budget vs. actuals analysis, variance explanations, and spending insightsGrant billing, reimbursement tracking, and compliance reportingFunctional expense allocations in line with nonprofit accounting standardsCash flow tracking and forecastingAudit preparation, documentation, and coordination with auditorsCoordination with CPAs and compliance stakeholdersAwareness and tracking of state and federal nonprofit deadlinesGeneral bookkeeping and GL maintenanceFinancial reporting support for fundraising and leadership decision-making (preferred)Required Tools & SystemsCandidates must have hands-on experience with:QuickBooks Online (primary accounting system)Excel / Google Sheets for financial analysis and reportingAudit documentation and support processesNonprofit-Specific Experience (Mandatory)This role requires proven, hands-on experience in:Grant compliance and reportingAudit preparation and coordinationFunctional expense allocationBoard-level financial reporting cadenceNonprofit budgeting and forecastingIf you do not have direct nonprofit accounting experience in these areas, please do not apply.Nice to Have Experience with donor management softwareFamiliarity with grant management platformsExposure to nonprofit CRMsIdeal Candidate Profile3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experienceNonprofit accounting experience is requiredComfortable presenting financial data to leadershipStrong written communication and reporting skillsHighly organized and able to work independentlyClear, professional English communicationWhat Success Looks Like (First 60–90 Days)Accurate and timely monthly closesConsistent board-reporting PDF packagesClear and compliant grant tracking and reportingReliable budget forecasts and variance analysisAudit-ready documentation at all times
