Department: RiG (R&D Center) Location: Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore Experience Required: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience Qualification: B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical, Automobile, EEE or allied disciplines About the Role: The Project Engineer at KCT Garage will lead and oversee all student-driven automotive projects, ensuring their alignment with technical standards, institutional goals, and event-specific requirements. The role demands a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and mentoring ability to guide multidisciplinary student teams through complete project lifecycles from design and fabrication to testing, documentation, and competition execution. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic technical guidance to student teams, ensuring their design and development approaches align with the objectives and technical requirements of each competition or innovation project. Lead the end-to-end execution of projects related to electric and combustion vehicles from concept design and prototyping to testing, validation, and competition readiness. Plan and manage team budgets effectively, ensuring equitable and strategic fund allocation across projects based on scope, impact, and institutional priorities. Track and drive progress against project timelines and technical milestones, implementing corrective actions to ensure on-schedule delivery of results. Evaluate and upgrade infrastructure, including workshop tools, machinery, and testing equipment, to maintain a state-of-the-art innovation environment. Oversee recruitment and onboarding, ensuring the selection of skilled, motivated students across all project teams and leading the institution-wide recruitment for KCT Garage. Mentor and empower team leads, tracking their technical growth, leadership maturity, and contribution to team performance. Build strategic collaborations with industry partners, suppliers, and academic mentors to enhance project capabilities and exposure. Encourage research and innovation, facilitating the publication of technical papers, patents, and design documentation derived from student projects. Design and conduct advanced training programs and hands-on workshops focused on design, fabrication, testing, and emerging automotive technologies. Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, competition reviews, and periodic progress reports for institutional and external stakeholders. Knowledge and Skill: Proficiency in CAD and simulation software (SolidWorks/CATIA/MATLAB Simscape, Ansys) Basic Understanding of electrical software (Proteus/ MATLAB Simulink / KiCAD). Strong understanding of automotive systems design and manufacturing. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills . Excellent communication, mentoring, and team collaboration skills. Exposure to Formula Student, BAJA, Shell Eco-marathon, or similar competitions is desirable. Experience in budgeting, procurement, and vendor management is a plus.
