Location:Chennai, Tamil Nadu Position: ResearcherAbout CAG Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG) is a non-profit and non-political organisation that works towards protecting citizens' rights in consumer and environmental issues and promoting good governance processes including transparency, accountability and participatory decision-making.Project description Emissions from the transport sector contribute around 25 per cent of the pollutants (NOx and SOx) in the air, having a wide ranging impact on human health and the environment. Yet, cities across India continue to support the growth of private transport over more sustainable public transit.The project aims to advocate for sustainable transport in Chennai through actions directed at key decision makers in legislative, implementation and enforcement agencies, and citizens. The overarching goal is‘Zero Emissions, Zero Exclusion, and Zero Road Deaths’. This entails a significant shift away from private car and ICE dominated systems to systems that prioritise smart, shared, renewable energy-based electric mobility and increase the infrastructure and support for walking, cycling, improved and equitable public transport.Responsibilities Researcher - Sustainable Transportis a key position for developing our work on advocating for a shift from private ICE systems to sustainable, shared mobility such as walking, cycling, public transport.The Researcher will be responsible for the following: Collecting, curating and analysing data Preparing research papers and reports, blogs, etc Undertaking literature reviews, conduct interviews Taking the lead in content management for website, flyers and brochures Assisting in organising knowledge sharing meetings, workshops etc Engaging and interacting with government officials, general public, and other stakeholders Supporting the Project Manager in achieving project goals and managing partnerships with the stakeholders Supporting the Executive Director in achieving organisational and team goalsCompetencies Professionalism: Knowledge and understanding of relevant concepts, approaches and public discourse Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues and partners to achieve organisational goalsCommunication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively, listens to others, clearly interprets messages, openness in sharing information and keep people informedPlanning: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies, identifies and adjusts priorities, time management, makes contingencies while planningEducation Candidates should have a postgraduate degree with specialisation in Urban Planning, Social Work, Media, Communications, or Social Sciences, and a good understanding of transport issues and mitigation strategies.Work Experience Candidates should have at least two (2) years of work experience and a familiarity with research methods/tools and research writing.Languages For the position, fluency in oral and written English and Tamil is mandatory.As a CAG employee, you can expect to be respected for who you are; be recognised and rewarded on ability and merit for your contributions; learn a wide range of skills in research, communications, finance, information and communication technology; be encouraged and supported to fulfil your potential through meaningful work that matters; work with great colleagues who are smart, mission-driven, and collaborative; and enjoy an inclusive and welcoming workplace.
