Job Description:
Position Overview The Fire & Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving safety systems and fire protection measures across the site. The role ensures compliance with applicable statutory requirements, company safety standards, and best industry practices. The position involves safety audits, risk assessments, training, emergency preparedness, and incident management to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.Key Responsibilities Safety Management & Compliance Conduct internal safety audits as per approved schedules and ensure timely closure of observations. Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and company safety requirements, including applicable Factory Rules and Fire Safety regulations. Carry out risk assessments and hazard identification activities such as PHA, HAZOP, PSSR, HIRA, JSA, FTE, FMEA, HAZ, and QRA as applicable. Coordinate and support external safety audits and inspections by regulatory authorities and third-party auditors. Lead Process Safety practices in line with Responsible Care and company standards. Fire & Emergency Preparedness Conduct emergency preparedness programs including mock drills, tabletop exercises, and emergency response simulations as per the emergency management plan. Monitor fire protection systems, firefighting equipment, and ensure their availability, readiness, and statutory compliance. Support continuous improvement of emergency planning based on risk assessment outcomes and drill learnings. Training & Awareness Conduct safety induction, refresher training, and specialized safety training programs for employees and contractors. Promote safety culture through toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and SHE initiatives. Incident Management Lead or support incident investigations, including near misses, accidents, and fire incidents. Identify root causes and ensure implementation and tracking of CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions). Contractor & Workplace Safety Participate in contractor safety evaluations, onboarding, and performance reviews. Ensure compliance with work permit systems and safe work procedures across all site activities. Documentation & Change Management Prepare, review, and maintain safety SOPs, guidelines, and records as per statutory and certification requirements. Participate in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) reviews and risk assessments related to management of change (MOC), new projects, and process modifications. Continuous Improvement Support and participate in Kaizen, SHE excellence, and HSIF (High Severity Injury & Fatality) reduction initiatives. Drive continuous improvement in safety systems, processes, and performance metrics.Qualifications & Experience (Optional – can be customized) MSc / BSc Degree with PDIS Certificate 5–8 years of experience in Fire & Safety roles within chemical, manufacturing, or process industries. Knowledge of Indian Factory Act, Fire Safety Rules, and applicable statutory regulations.Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of fire safety systems and process safety. Good understanding of risk assessment methodologies. Effective communication and coordination skills. Analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities. Ability to work cross-functionally and with regulatory bodies.
