5G Transport Network Engineer – Router Development

Location: Koramangala, Bengaluru, Karnataka Experience Required: 5–10 years in 5G backhaul engineering and core network transport systems, with direct exposure to router hardware/software design or testing. ROLE SUMMARY: We are seeking a 5G Transport Network Engineer to play a key role in the design, validation, and deployment of 5G routers , with a focus on transport-layer functionality including backhaul, fronthaul, and midhaul integration. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in 5G transport protocols, network synchronization, and hardware/software integration for router platforms , contributing to both product development and solution engineering . Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to define requirements for 5G router platforms, including transport interface design and network feature sets. Design and test transport functionalities such as IP/MPLS, Segment Routing (SR-MPLS/SRv6) , and carrier Ethernet for 5G router products. Integrate PTP (IEEE 1588v2) and SyncE for network timing and synchronization on router platforms. Participate in the development and validation of data plane and control plane functions (e.g., QoS, ACLs, VPNs, NAT, SR-TE). Conduct system-level testing of routers in lab and pre-production environments for performance, reliability, and interoperability. Interface with 5G RAN and Core teams to ensure router compatibility with CU/DU and core elements (AMF, SMF, UPF). Assist in the development of router management interfaces (CLI, SNMP, NETCONF/YANG) and support integration with orchestration platforms. Analyze transport KPIs (latency, jitter, packet loss) and optimize router performance for 5G URLLC and eMBB applications. Contribute to technical documentation , test plans, and product compliance reports. Required Skills & Responsibilities Deep experience in 5G backhaul engineering , including IP/MPLS, Segment Routing (SR), and Ethernet transport networks. Familiarity with router hardware design and embedded networking software development workflows. Strong understanding of 5G core network architecture and interfaces (N1-N6, N9, N3, etc.). Hands-on experience with network timing and synchronization protocols (PTP, SyncE). Proficiency in L2/L3 protocol stacks , QoS, traffic engineering, and network security features. Experience with network testing tools (e.g., Spirent, IXIA, Wireshark) and performance benchmarking. Knowledge of network automation (Python, Ansible), Linux networking , and Kubernetes/docker environments is a plus. Certifications like CCNP/SP, JNCIP, MEF-CECP are preferred. Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or related discipline. 5+ years in telecom transport network roles, with at least 2 years in router product development or testing .
