Non-profit Bookkeeper- FT|EST|Remote Company:U.S.-Based Nonprofit Start Date:ASAPWe are hiring afull-time Nonprofit Bookkeeperto support a U.S.-based nonprofit organization with end-to-end bookkeeping, monthly close, grant compliance, and board-level financial reporting. This role isnotsuitable for corporate-only accountants. We are looking for someone who hashands-on nonprofit accounting experience , understands grant workflows, functional expense allocations, and can confidently deliverboard-ready financial reportswith minimal supervision. You will report directly to theFinance Lead and Executive Leadership Teamand play a key role in financial visibility, compliance, and decision-making. Role OverviewAs the Nonprofit Bookkeeper, you will independently manage day-to-day bookkeeping while owning month-end close, reporting, and compliance activities. You’ll ensure financial accuracy, audit readiness, and timely grant reporting—while working closely with leadership and external CPAs. This is aremote, full-time role (40 hours/week)and requires availability duringU.S. EST (New York) business hours . Key ResponsibilitiesYou will independently own and execute: Monthly close process, includingaccruals, reconciliations, and adjustments Preparation ofboard-ready financial reports(PDF or similar formats) Budget vs. actuals analysis , variance explanations, and spending insights Grant billing, reimbursement tracking, and compliance reporting Functional expense allocationsin line with nonprofit accounting standards Cash flow tracking and forecasting Audit preparation , documentation, and coordination with auditors Coordination withCPAs and compliance stakeholders Awareness and tracking ofstate and federal nonprofit deadlines General bookkeeping andGL maintenance Financial reporting support forfundraising and leadership decision-making(preferred) Required Tools & SystemsCandidatesmust have hands-on experiencewith: QuickBooks Online(primary accounting system) Excel / Google Sheetsfor financial analysis and reporting Audit documentation and support processes Nonprofit-Specific Experience (Mandatory)This role requires proven, hands-on experience in: Grant compliance and reporting Audit preparation and coordination Functional expense allocation Board-level financial reporting cadence Nonprofit budgeting and forecasting If you do not have direct nonprofit accounting experience in these areas, please do not apply.Nice to HaveExperience withdonor management software Familiarity withgrant management platforms Exposure tononprofit CRMs Ideal Candidate Profile3+ yearsof bookkeeping or accounting experience Nonprofit accounting experience is required Comfortable presenting financial data to leadership Strong written communication and reporting skills Highly organized and able towork independently Clear, professional English communication What Success Looks Like (First 60–90 Days)Accurate and timelymonthly closes Consistentboard-reporting PDF packages Clear and compliantgrant tracking and reporting Reliablebudget forecasts and variance analysis Audit-ready documentationat all times
