JOB REQUISITESRole SummaryThe suitable candidate for this role is an emerging technical leader in Stormwater or River Hydraulic Modelling. As a Principal Engineer, you will be be the stormwater or river hydraulic modelling technical lead or reviewer for stormwater or river hydraulic modelling projects. You will effectively lead the technical delivery, whilst delegating and upskilling junior members of the team. The role involves coordination with engineers and peergroups across India and New Zealand while reporting to the Head of Department in India. The ideal candidate would be provide coaching to junior members on projects, as well as act as a mentor to wider team members. ResponsibilitiesLeads the technical delivery of a stormwater or river hydraulic modelling. Applies hydraulic principles for river and/or stormwater infrastructure planning, including stormwater networks, culverts, bridges, and open channel and 2D surface flow for clients using Innovyze ICM or Tuflow software for modelling projects and tasks, including preparation of reports, figures and other documents to a high level of grammatical and technical presentation.Uses Innovyze ICM and/or Tuflow software to build, update or test options/scenarios for river and/or stormwater systems. This includes model schematisation, assessment of model inputs and gap analysis, model build, validation and calibration, system performance assessment, and floodplain and hazard mapping.Carries out project works in accordance with our Integrated Management System (IMS). Work alongside project managers and junior team members to ensure efficient delivery. Delivers through teams, not individually.Develops hydrologic models and urban hydrology for use in hydraulic modelling. Interprets and manipulates geospatial datasets for hydraulic modelling using ArcGIS or QGIS.Interprets hydraulic models and outputs for infrastructure planning. Applies sound engineering judgement to resolve modelling anomalies to improve overall modelling confidence and communicates all risks and limitations on use of hydraulic models to the project team and the client.Works without supervision, direct others and ensures their work is verified by an appropriate professional.Successfully supports, coaches and mentors hydraulic modelling professionals to achieve a good standard of hydraulic modelling, embedding a culture of successful project delivery whilst also holding them to account, reducing re-work and supporting the continuous growth of the WSP stormwater or river hydraulic modelling capability.Ensures project related quality processes are carried out (technical reviews, verification, approval to release etc.) in a timely and cost-effectively manner.Undertakes appropriate verification of all inputs and outputs on hydraulic modelling projects.Provides regular feedback to team members in a constructive and timely manner. Completes tasks within allocated timeframes and budgeted hours.Ensures all technical risks are understood, managed, assigned to the organisation best placed to manage the risk, and these are well communicated with the project team, and/or client. Solves problems effectively by applying knowledge of hydraulics and engaging sound problem solving techniques and appropriate analysis to find value engineered/innovative solutions. Maintains knowledge of appropriate technical standards, legislation, codes of practice and New Zealand standards; Is knowledgeable on industry developments, trends, and processes. Applies sound judgement to decisions about technical issues and solves problems for clients to get the best possible outcome for a project. Undertakes appropriate verification of projects and team members’ work.Considering risks to client’s business or reputation as part of the planning and management of projects. Delivering excellent service to clients to promote repeat and uncompetitive work.Develops and maintains an extensive network of industry contacts in India and NZ (as a minimum) and is readily able to access key people. Ensure projects and variations are scoped and priced in a manner that will ensure commercial success and that respond to the specific risk profile of the project. Must have extensive use in ICM or Tuflow within the last 12 months.Demonstrable experience in using ArcGIS or QGIS to deliver stormwater and/or river hydraulic modelling projects. Automation or coding of hydraulic modelling activities is desirable.Past experience in NZ, Australian or UK projects is preferred but not essential.
