UAV Systems Engineer Position: UAV Systems Engineer (2–3 roles) Location: Aluva / Kochi, India (with travel to test ranges and partner sites) Department: UAV AI Division, Canary Digital.ai Role Overview As a UAV Systems Engineer , you will design, integrate, and test UAV hardware and flight systems for Canary Digital’s AI-powered defense and surveillance platforms. You will work hands-on with airframes, flight controllers (PX4/ArduPilot), payloads (EO/IR, Jetson compute), and mission planning software to ensure safe and reliable UAV operations. This is a technical execution role reporting to the Head of UAV Systems, with a strong focus on building and scaling real-world UAV capabilities. Key Responsibilities Integrate and configure PX4/ArduPilot-based flight controllers (Pixhawk-class). Implement waypoint missions, geofencing, and failsafe behaviors . Tune UAV flight performance (PID tuning, EKF parameters). Integrate payloads (EO/IR gimbals, Jetson companion computers, sensors). Support simulation-based development (AirSim/Gazebo SITL) and transition to field testing. Conduct bench tests, tethered flights, and live flight trials with safety protocols. Assist AI/ML engineers in integrating computer vision and Weather Guard modules on-board UAVs. Troubleshoot UAV avionics, power systems, and telemetry links. Maintain detailed logs of flight tests, anomalies, and performance tuning . Required Skills & Experience 3–7 years of experience in UAV/avionics/robotics engineering . Hands-on expertise with PX4/ArduPilot , QGroundControl/Mission Planner. Experience with UAV integration: airframes, propulsion, batteries, payloads . Strong grasp of flight dynamics, GNSS/IMU, sensor calibration . Familiarity with MAVLink protocol (mission upload, telemetry, command/control). Basic electronics knowledge (power distribution, soldering, ESCs, BECs). Passion for hands-on prototyping and flight testing. Preferred Background Academic or project work in drone/autonomous systems . Participation in student UAV competitions, robotics clubs, or aerospace research labs .
