Job Summary The Corporate General Counsel will be responsible to oversee all legal, compliance, and regulatory matters for the organization, guiding financial, customer, and people-related legal operations.Key Responsibilities:Financial PerspectiveTransaction Management: Lead legal aspects of high-value transactions, including land acquisition, leasing, financing, joint ventures, and sales. Negotiate and draft complex agreements to secure optimal financial terms.Risk Management: Identify and assess potential financial/legal risks associated with contracts, real estate deals, and company operations. Develop proactive strategies to mitigate these risks, safeguarding the company’s assets and interests.Compliance: Establish policies and practices to ensure compliance with real estate regulations, reducing the likelihood of fines and costly litigations that may impact the company’s financial standing.Budgeting for Legal Resources: Oversee the legal department’s budget, optimizing use of external counsel and internal resources to manage costs effectively.Customer PerspectiveContract and Transactional Support: Ensure customer contracts, sales agreements, and leases are legally sound and adhere to compliance standards, promoting transparent, customer-centric practices.Litigation Management: Handle all legal disputes, arbitrations, and litigations involving customers. Develop and implement strategies for resolution, minimizing negative impacts on customer relations and protecting the company’s reputation.Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that company projects comply with zoning, land use, and environmental regulations, minimizing disruptions and fostering positive relationships with customers and communities. People PerspectiveTeam Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor the in-house legal team, fostering a culture of legal excellence and professional development. Set clear goals and provide growth opportunities.Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, external counsel, and government authorities, creating a strong network that supports both the legal and business interests of the organization.Training and Education: Develop and conduct training sessions for employees on legal and compliance matters relevant to their roles, including contract terms, regulatory requirements, and best practices in risk management.Requirements:Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB or equivalent); Master’s or certifications in real estate law, corporate law, or finance law preferred.Experience: Overall 18-25 years of experience with at least 5-7 years of experience in real estate law or related legal practice, with a focus on financially impactful transactions.Analytical Skills: Ability to evaluate financial implications of legal decisions and provide strategic advice.Client-Centric Approach: Strong commitment to fair, transparent dealings with customers. Experience in customer-facing negotiations and dispute resolution.Communication Skills: Ability to simplify complex legal concepts for customer understanding, enhancing customer trust and satisfaction.Leadership Experience: Demonstrated success in managing and developing a team of legal professionals.Relationship Building: Skilled at maintaining productive relationships with external counsel, regulatory authorities, and internal stakeholders.Training Skills: Proficient in educating employees on legal practices and compliance, fostering a culture of legal integrity within the company.
