We work at the front end of the commercial process: identifying client needs, designing scientifically rigorous solutions, and ensuring what we deliver creates measurable value.-----------The OpportunityThis is a rare role for a scientist who has developed genuine commercial instincts. You will operate at the intersection of biology, data science, and client engagement - acting as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to senior stakeholders at pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies worldwide.You will work directly with the Director of Client Advisory and Consulting, partnering closely with Sales, Bioinformatics, and Scientific Informatics teams to translate complex client challenges into clearly defined, high-impact solutions.This is not a purely technical role, nor a purely commercial one. The ideal candidate brings scientific depth in computational biology and multi-omics, combined with the communication skills and commercial awareness to engage credibly at a senior level and help build Excelra's consulting pipeline.-----------Key ResponsibilitiesClient Engagement and Solution Design· Lead discovery conversations with clients to understand scientific challenges, unmet needs, and strategic priorities· Design and scope innovative, technically credible solutions drawing on Excelra's full portfolio of services and data assets· Prepare and present proposals, pitches, and client-facing materials that lead with client problems and demonstrate scientific rigourTechnical Pre-Sales Support· Provide deep domain expertise during sales engagements, including in-person client meetings, conference presentations, and virtual consultations· Support qualification of opportunities and help develop accurate, competitive bids· Act as a scientific peer to client bioinformaticians, computational biologists, and data science leads - credibility at the bench level mattersProposal and Bid Management· Lead the development of proposals in partnership with Sales and delivery teams, ensuring scientific accuracy, appropriate scoping, and compelling positioning· Coordinate input from subject matter experts across Excelra's business units to build technically sound, well-priced bidsDelivery Liaison· Act as the bridge between client requirements and Excelra's delivery teams, ensuring clear handover, accurate translation of scope, and continuity of client relationship through project initiation· Contribute to quality review of scientific outputs where your domain expertise adds valueMarket Intelligence and Competitive Analysis· Monitor and analyse developments in computational biology, multi-omics, and adjacent fields to identify emerging client needs and white-space opportunities· Contribute to Excelra's competitive intelligence, tracking positioning of key players in the bioinformatics and life sciences analytics spaceThought Leadership and External Representation· Represent Excelra as a genuine subject matter expert at industry conferences, Pistoia Alliance events, and client forums· Contribute to scientific content, white papers, and marketing materials that establish Excelra's credibility in computational biology and multi-omics· Engage with your professional network to generate awareness and, over time, inbound interest---------What We Are Looking ForScientific Expertise· PhD (or equivalent) in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, or a closely related discipline· 5+ years of industry experience, with demonstrable applied expertise in multi-omics data analysis, NGS, target identification/prioritisation, or biomarker discovery· Deep understanding of the drug discovery and development process, from early target biology through translational research· Working knowledge of relevant tools, pipelines, and platforms (e.g., R, Python, cloud-based genomics workflows, ontologies)Commercial and Client-Facing Skills· Experience engaging directly with clients or senior internal stakeholders in a consulting, pre-sales, or scientific advisory capacity· Ability to translate complex scientific requirements into clearly scoped, commercially viable proposals· Strong written and verbal communication - comfortable presenting to both scientific and executive audiences· Confidence to represent Excelra externally as a domain expert and thought leaderWays of Working· Highly collaborative, with the ability to coordinate across multiple internal teams and time zones· Commercially curious - genuinely interested in understanding how Excelra can create value for clients, not just deliver technically· Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, growth-oriented environment where the consulting practice is still being built· Self-directed, with strong judgement about where to invest time and when to escalate------------Grading NoteThis role will be graded as Senior Consultant for candidates based in India, and Consultant for candidates based in the UK, reflecting local market structures. In both cases, we are seeking candidates with approximately 5 years of relevant post-qualification industry experience.
