Job Description

The Machinery Manager is responsible for planning, operating, maintaining, and safely dismantling ship machinery from various end-of-life vessels at the Alang ship recycling yard. The role ensures efficient recovery of machinery, compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and optimal utilization of yard equipment and manpower.Location: Alang, GujaratResponsibilities- The Machinery Manager oversees the dismantling, removal, and handling of shipboard machinery, including main engines, auxiliary engines, boilers, generators, pumps, compressors, and deck equipment. - The role involves assessing the condition of vessel machinery prior to dismantling and planning appropriate cutting, lifting, and shifting methods to ensure safety and efficiency. - The Machinery Manager ensures proper identification, segregation, and handling of reusable machinery, scrap material, and hazardous components as per recycling plans. - The position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and availability of yard machinery such as cranes, winches, forklifts, hydraulic tools, trailers, and gas-cutting equipment. - The role includes planning preventive maintenance, coordinating repairs, maintaining spare parts inventory, and ensuring all machinery inspections and certifications are valid. - The Machinery Manager ensures compliance with the Ship Recycling Facility Plan, the Hong Kong Convention requirements, and guidelines issued by the Gujarat Maritime Board. - The role involves coordinating closely with safety and environmental teams to ensure safe handling of fuels, oils, asbestos-containing materials, and other hazardous substances. - The Machinery Manager conducts regular safety briefings, toolbox talks, and on-site supervision for all machinery-related activities. - The position requires close coordination with yard management, cutting supervisors, safety officers, and environmental personnel to align machinery work with vessel recycling schedules. - The role includes maintaining machinery logs, dismantling records, inspection reports, and supporting internal and external audits or regulatory inspections.Qualifications and Experience- The candidate holds a diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or marine engineering. (Preferred) - The role requires several years of experience in marine machinery, ship recycling, ship repair, or heavy industrial dismantling operations. - Practical knowledge of shipboard systems and hazardous material handling in industrial environments is essentialSkills and Competencies- The Machinery Manager must demonstrate strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and the ability to supervise teams working in challenging yard conditions. - The role requires a strong safety-focused approach, good planning ability, and effective coordination and communication skills.Working Conditions- The position is based in an outdoor ship recycling yard and involves exposure to heavy machinery, noise, heat, and marine working conditions. - Working hours may be extended based on operational requirements and vessel recycling timelines.Salary and Benefits- The role offers a competitive compensation package with salary as per industry standards for ship recycling operations and aligned with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
