Job Description: Safety Engineer - WarehouseLocation: Jagiroad, AssamYears of Experience: 8 to 12 Years1. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Warehouse Safety Management- Develop and implement comprehensive warehouse safety procedures covering receiving, storage, picking, packing, movement, stacking and dispatch. - Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) for all warehouse operations. - Review and monitor material handling equipment (MHE) safety (forklifts, pallet trucks, stackers, conveyors). - Knowledge on safety requirements for battery charging area, dock leveller safety, forklift and pedestrian walkway, fire fighting equipment etc.B. Storage & Material Handling Safety- Ensure proper segregation and storage of materials as per SDS, compatibility charts and relevant rules. - Establish safe practices for handling flammables, corrosives, compressed gases and other sensitive materials stored in warehouse areas. - Ensure compliance with stacking norms, racking systems, load limits and floor load capacities. - Verify safe ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) practices for sensitive electronic components.C. Compliance & Documentation- Ensure adherence to relevant statutory requirements (The OSH Code 2020, The Factories Act 1948, Warehousing Rules, Fire Safety Guidelines, etc.). - Prepare SOPs, checklists, inspection reports and audit documentation related to warehouse safety. - Conduct and document internal safety inspections and report non-compliances with corrective actions.D. Emergency Preparedness & Response- Develop and maintain Emergency Response Plans for warehouse incidents (fire, chemical spill, gas leak, equipment collision, material collapse). - Conduct regular mock drills, fire safety checks and emergency equipment inspections. - Train warehouse staff on PPE use, safe lifting practices, spill response, firefighting basics and evacuation.E. Training & Awareness- Deliver training for warehouse operators, logistics personnel and contractors on: - MHE safety - Safe loading/unloading - Manual handling/ergonomics - Hazardous material handling - Electrical & ESD safety - Ensure contractor workers follow all warehouse safety protocols.F. Coordination & Project Support- Work with Stores, Logistics, Operations, Facilities, Supply Chain teams to integrate safety into warehouse planning and layout. - Provide safety inputs for new warehouse setups, racking installations, design modifications and new material introduction. - Participate in vendor audits and ensure safety compliance during outsourced logistics operations.2. Required Skills & Competencies- Strong understanding of warehouse operations, logistics safety, MHE safety, stacking and racking systems, and safe material movement. - Knowledge of handling hazardous chemicals, compressed gases and ESD-sensitive items. - Familiarity with FIFO/FEFO material systems, ERP inventory practices and logistics workflows. - Ability to conduct incident investigation, root cause analysis and safety audits. - Ability to interpret engineering drawings. - Good communication and training skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams.3. Preferred Background- Experience in warehousing/logistics for manufacturing plants, preferably electronics, automotive, pharmaceuticals, or industrial components. - Exposure to cleanroom environment material flow and semiconductor-grade logistics is highly desirable. - Knowledge of international standards (OSHA warehousing guidelines, NFPA, ISO 45001).
