About Lady Andal House of Children Lady Andal House of Children (LAHOC) is an established special school in Chennai, founded by The Madras Seva Sadan, a renowned institution with a long-standing and respected legacy in education. Who are we looking for We are looking for a qualified Arts and Crafts Teacher with proven experience in designing and implementing age-appropriate and ability-sensitive art, drawing, and craft activities. Candidates should have prior experience working with children with special needs, along with strong interpersonal skills, patience, creativity, and empathy. The ability to adapt to diverse learner needs is essential. Knowledge of therapeutic art practices will be an added advantage. Key Responsibilities: Curriculum Development: Design and implement age-appropriate and ability-sensitive drawing, art and craft activities. Integrate therapeutic and educational goals into the lesson plan Classroom Instruction: Deliver engaging and adaptive lessons using a variety of media (e.g., painting, drawing, sculpture, collage). Modify activities and materials to accommodate students with different abilities and learning styles. Encourage student participation and self-expression in a supportive and inclusive environment. Assessment and Reporting: Observe and evaluate student progress and document achievements. Collaborate with special educators and therapists to set individual goals and strategies. Provide feedback to parents and guardians on student development. Classroom Management: Create a safe, positive, and structured environment that supports the emotional and sensory needs of students. Manage classroom behaviour effectively and empathetically. Collaboration: Work closely with occupational therapists, speech therapists, special educators, and other staff. Participate in IEP (Individualised Education Program) meetings when necessary. Maintain and organise art supplies and materials. Ensure all tools and materials are safe and suitable for use by students with special needs. Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Special Education, or a related field. Certification or training in special education (preferred or required, depending on school policy). 3 to 7 years working with children and adults with multiple disabilities Prior experience working with children with special needs is highly desirable. Patience, creativity, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to individual student needs. Familiarity with therapeutic art practices is a plus.
