About the role The Project Head – Palm Oil Mill and Speciality Fat is responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and successful execution of palm oil mill projects, ensuring alignment with company strategies, goals, and commitments. This role involves overseeing all aspects of project planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and performance monitoring. The Project Head leads a dedicated project management team to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery of palm oil mill projects, from inception through to completion. Key Responsibilities: The following duties are typical for this role, though the incumbent may be required to take on additional or different tasks based on business needs: Project Leadership & Strategy: Lead and manage the end-to-end execution of palm oil mill projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategies. Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, in collaboration with senior management and key stakeholders. Develop and maintain a detailed project plan, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Team Management & Collaboration: Lead and mentor a team of project managers, engineers, and other project staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, operations, and safety, to ensure successful project outcomes. Manage relationships with contractors, subcontractors, and other external partners to ensure compliance with project specifications and timelines. Project Execution & Monitoring: Oversee the execution of palm oil mill projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope. Continuously monitor project progress, including adherence to schedules, cost management, quality control, and risk mitigation. Proactively identify and address any project issues, risks, or delays, ensuring minimal impact on project timelines and budgets. Budget & Financial Management: Develop, manage, and track project budgets, ensuring cost control and optimal resource utilization. Prepare and negotiate all project change orders, ensuring accurate financial forecasting and reporting. Review and approve financial statements, invoices, and payments related to the project. Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with relevant environmental, health, safety, and quality standards. Implement and enforce best practices in project management, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies. Conduct regular site inspections to verify adherence to safety protocols and construction standards. Stakeholder Communication & Reporting: Maintain regular communication with senior management and stakeholders, providing updates on project status, milestones, risks, and issues. Facilitate meetings with stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, and consultants, to ensure alignment and progress tracking. Prepare detailed project reports and presentations for executive reviews. Technical Expertise & Resource Management: Leverage technical knowledge of palm oil mill equipment, processes, and technologies to guide project decisions and troubleshooting. Ensure effective management and coordination of all technical aspects of the project, including palm oil extraction units, boilers, ETP systems, and co-generation plants, refineries with technologies like fractionations, interestificationa and hydrogenation. Oversee procurement and selection of key materials, equipment, and subcontractors, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness. Risk Management & Continuous Improvement: Identify potential risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions. Implement a robust project risk management framework, ensuring regular risk assessments throughout the project lifecycle. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery processes, performance, and efficiency. Who are we looking for? Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Professional certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, Prince2) is highly desirable. Experience: A minimum of 10 years of project management experience. Extensive experience in managing large-scale projects in bulk material handling and process industries, equipment installation, and process optimization. Skills & Expertise: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and lead cross-functional teams. Proven expertise in project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and cost control. In-depth knowledge of palm oil mill operations, including equipment such as screw presses, expellers, clarifiers, ETP systems, boilers, and co-generation plants. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills. Personal Attributes: Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to project execution. Detail-oriented, organized, and results-driven. Strong focus on safety, quality, and environmental compliance. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a focus on team collaboration and project outcomes. Desirable Experience: Exposure to palm oil mill operations, including bulk material handling, waste treatment plants (ETP), expellers, co-generation (boiler and turbine systems), and related technologies; includig CPO/PKO refinery, hydrogenation and interestifications.
